About Me

Physiotherapist in South Africa

I have been practising as a physiotherapist since qualifying in 1984.  I graduated from the University of Cape Town and worked for two years in Europe.

Returning to South Africa, I worked in private practice for 12 years.  During that time I was the physiotherapist for the South African Veteran Cycling Team.

I also served in the executive committee of the South African Society of Physiotherapy and represented them at the Africa conference and the World Confederation for Physical Therapy conferences.

Physiotherapist in the UK

In 2000 I moved to the UK with my husband and children. Since then I have worked all over the North east in the NHS, Occupational Physiotherapy and private practice.

I am passionate about helping people in pain get better and achieve their goals in life. A lot of the time we need to retrain our muscles and joints to move optimally.

For many years I have had a clinical interest in pelvic health and am constantly striving to empower patients stricken by this “hidden problem”.

Lucy Bendle Physiotherapy Ltd

Today I practise from my clinic in Blackwell Lane’s Business Centre in Darlington.  Visit me in my well appointed clinic and whatever your problem please be assured I will work with you to create a programme suited to your lifestyle and ability which will see you take those steps to recovery.

What happens when you come for your appointment?

Assessment

When you come for physiotherapy, I will assess your problem and give you advice. Everything you tell me will be completely confidential.

Dress Comfortably

So that I can have a good look at how you move, I may need you to remove some clothes. It’s a good idea to dress comfortably and wear suitable underwear.

Treatment Plan

We will then discuss your problem and work out a treatment plan tailored for you. Treatment may consist of mobilisations, soft tissue massage, acupuncture or ultrasound.

Homework

You will also get exercises and a rehabilitation programme to do at home between treatments.

Treatments

Joint Mobilisation

Painful joints?  Knee, hip or ankle pain? Pain in your joints can seriously impact your mobility. Mobilisation of joint is one key area of my work and one in which I employ various  techniques to achieve results.

Exercises & Rehabilitation

Following assessment I create for you a unique recovery plan which will involve retraining your muscles and joints.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can provide fantastic results for patients suffering with chronic pain.  I am a qualified & registered with  Acupuncture Association of  Chartered Physiotherapy (AACP).

Therapeutic Ultra Sound

A proven treatment for soft-tissue damage which can increase healing rates, blood flow and break down scar tissue.

Trigger Point Massage

Tight areas of muscle, or trigger points can cause pain in other parts of your body.  Massage incorporating trigger point therapy can help, as part of your healing plan, reduce the muscle contraction or tightness.

Home Visits

If you are unable to visit my clinic I offer home visits and one can be arranged easily.
